Lauzen Files Most Petition Signatures For Spot on "Special Election" Ballot.
Wednesday, 12/12/2007

(North Aurora)-Given only 4.5 days during winter storms and busy holiday schedules, Chris Lauzen filed the top number of petition signatures on the first day for a position on the 14th Congressional “Special Election” ballot. Lauzen’s team bested Jim Oberweis’ and Kevin Burns’ effort by almost 1,000 signatures.

As a further example of the type of grassroots organization and strength from the Lauzen for Congress campaign, Lauzen had the most circulators--115 mostly volunteers compared to other campaigns using paid campaign staff.

“I am grateful to have the most generous, hard-working, and organized grassroots supporters. When Governor Blagojevich announced that we would have less than a week to file for the Special Election, the Lauzen for Congress Team didn’t miss a beat. Our effort is just a preview of the get-out-the-vote push we have planned for the February 5th, 2008 Primaries.”

Because Congressman Hastert is retiring mid-term, a Special Election must be conducted in addition to the Regular Election. Both primary elections, requiring two separate ballots, will be on February 5th, 2008. Winners of the Special Primary will go on to the Special General election on Saturday, March 8, 2008. The winner on March 8th will fill the remainder of Hastert's term in office, which expires in January 2009. The winners of the regular primary, however, will go on to the general election on Nov. 4, 2008.

“The timetable is confusing and expensive. As a Conservative with a record of exposing and stopping waste, I regret that taxpayers of eight counties and their respective County Clerks have been given this additional expense and work load,” Lauzen said.

What they're saying about Chris Lauzen...

I first saw Senator Lauzen at the Memorial Day celebration this year at the Hampshire Park. He left an impression and a feeling that he has the character and presence that is so needed in Washington.
